Rodent Control at 9/11 Memorial

We are proud to have Kevin Hurley as our on-staff entomologist here at Pro-Con and, interestingly enough, he is assisting with rodent control at Ground Zero. Here is a brief description of the experience in his own words:

I was fortunate to have one of my customers call me in as a consultant for the rodent problem at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. It was an honor to be standing there, to have the opportunity to be onsite before it was open to the public.

This is one of the largest vertical construction sites in the world. Upon completion, One World Trade Center will be the tallest building in the U.S., standing at a symbolic height of 1,776 feet. The site will open on September 11 & 12. For more information, visit www.911memorial.org.

I was called in to audit the current rodent control program and to make suggestions on improvements. As you can imagine, with so much construction, so many food sources surrounding the site (pizza, pasta, food courts, canteens, etc.), and with contractors bringing their own food in to eat, the rodents are having a really nice time of it. The PCO in charge of the site is doing a phenomenal job and trapping out scores of rodents with their program. These NYC rats are smart, though, and are springing some traps without getting caught. The PCO is augmenting the trapping program with FirstStrike bait by Liphatech and is getting great bait acceptance.
